6 Reasons GMO Foods Are Bad for You

All kinds of things factor into a healthy diet, and even if you try your best to eat healthy and stay away from unhealthy choices, there’s a good chance something can still slip through the cracks. One of these things is Genetically Modified Organism (GMO) foods, which have been a topic of debate for quite some time now. If you’re unsure about the negative effects of GMO foods, here is a quick list of six reasons to avoid them.

GMO Foods are full of Pesticides

Most genetically engineered foods are made to be protected from pests, which means they are regularly doused in pesticides. When consumed, these pesticides are harmful to the body. It should be common sense that any substance that is used to kill insects should not be consumed by you or your family, but unfortunately, this does not seem to be an issue for many food companies.

GMO Foods can cause Digestive Problems

Glyphosate is the most common herbicide used on GMO crops, and it has been shown to negatively impact gut bacteria in humans. This creation of bacterial imbalance has been known to cause problems with the human digestive system.

GMO foods can Increase Toxicity

The majority of plants produce substances that are toxic to humans, and while most of the plants we eat produce toxins at levels that do no harm to our health; this may not be the case with GMO foods. Inserting an exotic gene into a plant can cause that plant to produce toxins at a much higher level than usual. This overabundance of toxins may be harmful if consumed by a human being.

GMO Foods can Accelerate the Aging Process

The results of animal studies on the effects of GMO foods suggest that they may be linked to accelerated aging in the human body. If you consume enough GMO foods, you may be on your way to looking older much sooner than you would like or expect.

GMO Foods are linked to Infertility

Animal studies have also shown that GMO foods are a possible contributor to infertility. If you are a woman who plans to have children, it may be a good idea to stay away from GMO foods, and of course the same rule applies to men who wish to have kids in the future.

GMO Foods could lead to Cancer

GMO foods and the pesticides that are used on them have the potential to lead to specific types of cancer in human beings. Cancer is one of the leading causes of death among humans today, and by avoiding GMO foods, you may increase your chances of avoiding it.

In addition to these harmful effects GMO foods can have on your body, there are many others including liver and kidney damage, hormonal disruption, food allergy development, organ damage, and gastrointestinal and immune system disorders. By paying attention to what you are eating and making sure to only shop for organic, non-GMO foods, you are going to be healthier and happier.

Stress-reducing Mind and Body Meditations for Healing

If you have been feeling stressed, depressed, or simply not yourself lately, you may be wondering if there is a way to feel better. It can be very difficult when we fall into a slump of negative feelings to find a way out and start feeling happy and positive again. Unfortunately, we often resort to external stimuli to help us feel better, which can certainly feel like it’s helping, but leaves your body and mind vulnerable to slipping right back into a negative state. Relax, because there is a way to start healing your mind and body while getting back in touch with your inner self. Meditation is an ancient technique that is still practiced all over the world today and when done can have all sorts of positive effects. Here are some of the best meditations you can start practicing today.

Dr. Wright’s Cleaning Out Technique

This meditation technique is characterized by specific combinations of rhythmic breathing, and is used to spiritually cleanse the body, section by section. The creator of this technique, Dr. Wright, developed it after returning from Burma, where he was a cultural attaché.   Dr. Wright created an entirely separate discipline with his Cleaning out Technique, and today it is practiced as a great way to start your path to feeling better through the power of meditation.

Conscious Mind Cleansing

By listening to the Conscious Mind Cleansing CD, you can empty your mind of stress and anxiety. The CD uses powerful, computer-generated tones that are designed to penetrate into the deep nervous system’s pathways and neurons. By listening to the CD at least once a week using headphones, you will achieve the best results possible, and it is recommended that you immediately relax after doing so. If you’ve been feeling very stressed or anxious, this method could be just what you need.

Sanskrit Healing Mantras

The word “mantra” means “mind transport”, and this is exactly what will happen when you practice Sanskrit healing mantras. Mantra reciting can be done in groups or alone and involves saying a specific mantra over and over again either aloud or in your head. Reciting mantras helps your mind to centre on the simplistic approach to life and to supress any distractions and thoughts that may happen to arise.

Emotional Freedom Technique

This acupressure technique is used to optimize emotional health, which is often overlooked. Emotional health is essential if your entire body is going to be functioning properly. The emotional freedom technique involves tapping yourself on strategic parts of your body that serve as kinetic energy spots in order to increase the flow of positive energy throughout your entire body. Tapping is often accompanied by a number of different positive affirmations that are spoken aloud. This method is great for removing negative emotions, reducing food cravings, reducing and eliminating pain, and implementing positive goals.

By practicing these mediation techniques, you are sure to start feeling better physically, mentally, and spiritually in no time at all!

All about Autonomic Response Testing

If you have been experiencing pain, stress, or discomfort and you’re just not sure what is causing the problem, it may be a good idea to consider visiting a naturopathic clinic to undergo Autonomic Response Testing (ART)

What is Autonomic Response Testing?

Autonomic Response Testing is a biofeedback technique that is used to investigate the root causes of poor health. Oftentimes, pain, discomfort, and poor health conditions can be the result of certain factors putting stress on the body in one or more ways. ART is a sort of enhanced physical exam that primarily uses changes in muscle tone as indicators of stress. It does this by using a number of methods that place stress on the body, followed by assessing the body’s response to each stressor and then interpreting those responses.

What can ART Treat?

ART has been used to treat a number of health problems including allergies, chronic pain, diabetes, arthritis, anxiety, digestive problems, depression, chronic fatigue, hypoglycemia, menopause, and chronic infections.

What are the Steps?

Step 1: the procedure begins with the body being stressed using a number of different methods. Applied neuro-psychology is utilized to stress the body psychologically, and electromagnetic stress is also used. Structural stress is administered by squeezing particular organs or glands, placing stress on one or more joints, or pressing on a teacher area of the body. The patient is also stressed biochemically through the administration of medication orally, through an I.V., or via another route.

Step 2: after each stressor is effectively applied to the body, the test administrator will assess the reaction of the patient by one of a number of different means. These include muscle tests, an arm length test, applied kinesiology, HRV (heart rate variability), Kirlian photography, electro acupuncture, and a bi-digital O-ring test.

Step 3: after assessing the body’s reaction to each stressor, those reactions must now be interpreted. Those who practice Autonomic Response Testing generally all use the same guidelines when conducting this step. If a mild stressor is applied and there is a reaction, then it is safe to say the body is already under severe stress. If a severe stressor causes a reaction, with neither a mild or moderate stressor causing one before it, then the body is only under very mild stress. Lastly, moderate stressors causing reactions is indicative of the body being under moderate stress.

Step 4: this step involves using therapeutic modalities in attempt to ease or neutralize the stress. Any therapeutic modality that is found to help relieve the stress is immediately classified as an effective method in helping the body to cope with the stress that’s been discovered. If the item is non-allergenic and helpful in relieving the stress, it can be used as a treatment.

Autonomic Response Testing is a safe, reliable, and minimally invasive method of getting to the bottom of why you feel the way you do. If you’d like a safe, natural way to start leading a healthier and happier life, visit Rejuv-Innate Naturopathic Clinic today!

Tips for Staying Healthy in the Summer

Summer time is almost upon us, and that means your lifestyle is about to change in certain ways due to the warmer weather and the increased amount of time you’re likely to spend outdoors. While you’re sure to have plenty of fun, it’s important to remember that these lifestyle changes come with their own safety concerns and health risks. Being aware of these and knowing what you can do to protect yourself and stay healthy this summer is your first step to enjoying this wonderful time of year! Here are some of the best tips to stay healthy this summer season.

Take your Exercise Routine Outside

We all know that exercise is good for us, so it only makes sense that it should be part of our daily routine during the warm summer months when the weather is ideal for enjoying the sunshine and fresh air. Sure indoor gyms are a great choice for all of the other seasons, but for summer you should consider taking your exercise routine outside in the form of activities such as swimming, running, hiking, and outdoor sports. Doing this will ensure you keep your heart strong and healthy with the added benefit of feeling the sunshine on your shoulders.

Stay Hydrated

You are at risk of becoming dehydrated during summer more than any other time of the year. In hotter weather, we tend to sweat more, meaning our bodies lose water at a much faster rate. This can lead to severe dehydration, which can cause your body to shut down. Make sure to drink eight to nine glasses of water a day in order to keep yourself well-hydrated. If water starts to get old, feel free to change things up a bit with low calorie flavouring such as pieces of fruit, or go with a good alternative like coconut water.

Stay Protected from the Sun

You’ll want to make sure you protect yourself from harmful UV rays this summer by sticking to the shade when you feel too hot, wearing a hat, and using natural protective sunscreens with no excessive chemicals. Keeping an aloe plant in your home can prove useful since the soothing gel found in its leaves can treat sunburns.

Know your Smoothies

One of the most popular drinks during the summer months is the smoothie. These delicious drinks are often marketed as healthy choices, and while there is truth to that in many cases, some smoothies are packed with calories. Try to avoid smoothies that are more on the unhealthy side by going with nothing but fruit, juice, low-fat yoghurt, and ice as ingredients. Frozen yoghurt and ice cream are the ingredients you’ll want to steer clear of.

Get the True Nature Experience

Summer is the best time of the year to truly experience what nature has to offer. Nice summer breezes, green grass, leafy trees, sunny blue skies; all of these things can help you feel completely at peace with the world and can work wonders to melt away stress. Being outside in the summer can be like experiencing rejuvenating therapy for free. Follow these tips and you’re sure to have a healthy stress-free summer full of sunshine, fun, and happiness!

Six Beneficial Supplements

There are several botanicals and nutrients that are worth their weight in gold when it comes to maintaining your health. Most people can enjoy the benefits of these supplements daily to help prevent flus/colds, increase resistance to cancer and heart disease while improving overall resistance to stress. Some of these remedies are used to correct common deficiencies in the western diet that contribute to conditions such as osteoporosis, cancer and increased infections.

Multivitamin/Mineral With Added Super foods and Antioxidants

While there may be controversy as to the benefits of a multivitamin to treat disease, there is no question as to whether or not chronic deficiencies of any nutrient will cause various diseases. A good quality multivitamin ensures that there are no deficiencies in critical nutrients for optimal body performance. The one I recommend most often is Biofoundation G. The reason is because of its superior quality and addition of super nutrients such as Resveratrol, CoQ10, R Alpha Lipoic Acid and N Acetyl Cysteine. These nutrients improve blood sugar regulation, help heal nerve damage and improve the ability to the body to detoxify the various toxins that the body is exposed to daily. Biofoundation G should be considered the nutritional foundation for most supplement regimes due to the broad-spectrum activity it confers.

Theracurmin

Curcumin is and extract of turmeric widely valued for its anti-inflammatory, immune enhancing, anti cancer, brain protective benefits. Hundreds of research studies are now validating that daily exposure to Curcumin brings vast anti aging benefits that are hard to replicate via any other means. Anyone wishing to reduce inflammation or almost any chronic disease should consider daily intake of curcumin. The major challenge with regular curcumin is notoriously poor absorption. Theracurmin solves this problem via a special deliver method allowing for better penetration of curcumin into the regions that the body needs most such as brain and joints to confer the best benefits.

Cerebrovital

The part of the cell called the mitochondria is responsible for supplying almost all the energy used by the body. Furthermore the number and health of these mitochondria play a critical role with regard to resistance to cancer, heart disease and maintaining optimal fat metabolism. Cerebrovital is a blend of CoQ10 and PQQ to improve the health of the mitochondria and also to increase the number of them in your cells as well! As we age the number of mitochondria in our cells decreases and is thought to be responsible for many of the deleterious effects of aging. Cerebrovital is compatible with Biofoundation G.

Bio Omega 3

Bio Omega 3 is a clean high quality fish oil. Anyone who wishes to lose weight, decrease inflammation, heart disease or improve brain function should consider taking Omega 3s. The western diet tends to contain lots of poor quality fats and a deficiency of omega 3’s. A few capsules per day of Bio Omega 3 helps to correct this deficiency.

Mycelia Intrinsic Medicinal Mushroom Extract

Medicinal mushrooms are one of the most heavily researched natural remedies today. Considered by many to be a natural pharmacy they improve immune, cardiovascular and mental health dramatically. Regular intake has also been shown to increase overall stamina and resistance to most chronic diseases.

Solray D Spray

Vitamin D is considered one of the most common deficiencies today. Increased risk of infection, cancer, depression, allergies and autoimmune disease is associated with vitamin D deficiency. Another important fact is the need to supplement vitamin D with the right form of vitamin K! Without vitamin K, vitamin D is unable to transport calcium to the right tissues in the body. Proper vitamin K and D supplementation is thought to aid bone density and also slow the generation of atherosclerosis.

TBM May Be Your Health Solution

The last 4 days were spent upgrading my knowledge of my favorite technique TBM (Total Body Modification).

There were some amazing NEW things learned this weekend I’d like to tell you about like…

  • How to regulate blood sugar levels when basic corrections are not holding.   ALMOST ALL anxiety can be boiled down to unstable blood sugar.
  • How to stimulate the body to SAFELY move heavy metals out of the body!   Now lead, mercury, cadmium, aluminum and others can be removed for a fraction of the cost of chelation.
  • How to repair some of the underlying brain problems that create the tendency towards CANCER development in the body!  It is now known in integrative medicine circles that emotional trauma will precede cancer development and is a vital factor in the growth and spread of cancer.
  • How to remodel brain damage from head injuries, MS, ALS, Parkinson’s to stimulate growth and repair of nerve pathways.
  • How to STOP the degenerative cascade of autoimmune disease in its tracks!  The Degenerative Disease Syndrome (DDS) helps to correct the downward spiral patients with autoimmune disease such as Rheumatoid arthritis, Lupus and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis!
  • Meditation to provide a spiritual armour for yourself to prevent negative experiences of the day from dragging down your health.
  • Guided visualization to learn to correct your OWN PERSONAL BIOCOMPUTER so you can fix yourself.

After correcting the basic reflexes in a patient there are many other advanced techniques that can be used to accomplish a variety of health benefits.

The weekend further reinforced the importance of basics such as making sure everyone is…

  • Drinking 1 liter per 50 lbs. of bodyweight per day
  • Vitamin B6 300mg/day
  • Eating at least 9 ounces of rare red meat a week
  • Supplementing Iodine
  • Supplementing Calcium
  • Remembering to salt food with sea salt regularly

If the basics are not in place, the correction of TBM reflexes will either not hold or likely create a healing crisis as the body begins to release toxins with the corrections.  The basic recommendations are vital to help the body metabolize and release all toxins that are liberated from corrections.

I’m pretty excited to see what kind of results we’re going to see in your health with the new tools we have at our disposal.

Be well!

Determine How Healthy You Are

 pacman photo

Things  to consider when determining how healthy you are.

  • How often do you get sick?  More than 2 times a year?
  • Is your sleep deep and refreshing?
  • Do you have chronic pain anywhere in the body?
  • How active are you?  Are you exercising at least 3 times a week ?
  • How often do you eat fried foods, sugar, packaged foods?
  • Do you eat vegetables, fish, organic foods?
  • Are you over or underweight?
  • How is your energy throughout the day?
  • Do you get headaches and how often?
  • Do you have any allergies to pollens, foods or other chemicals?
  • How is your appetite?  Do you get heartburn, constipation, bloating?
  • How is your mood?  Are you generally relaxed and content or do you spend much of your time angry, depressed or anxious
  • Is your libido good or decreased?
  • Do you have skin problems of eczema, acne, psoriasis?
  • Have you had any issues with infections of any kind?
  • How often do you meditate?

Women only

Is your menstrual cycle 28 days?  Do you have any hormonal or PMS symptoms of mood changes, cramping, digestive changes, hair loss?Have you had any breast cysts or lumps in the past?

Many symptoms people seek help for are really signs of imbalance in physiology.  Working to improve overall balance often leads to improvement of things people weren’t actively treating.

Eczema and Psoriasis

Key Pillars in the Treatment of Eczema and Psoriasis

In my experience, I’ve found that to bring about any significant change in skin symptoms that various types of treatment are required. Skin problems  such as eczema and psoriasis can be difficult to treat and generally will not get better with “cook book” remedies and localized treatments alone. To see results, I recommend the following course of treatment.

  1. Test For Food Sensitivities

Food sensitivities are delayed reactions to specific foods that are triggered by IgG antibodies.

Food sensitivities is an IgG reaction, the IgG antibodies attach themselves to the food antigen and create an antibody-antigen complex. Special cells called macrophages normally remove these complexes.  However, if they are present in large numbers and the reactive food is still being consumed, the macrophages can’t remove them quickly enough.  The food antigen-antibody complexes accumulate and are deposited in body tissues. Once in tissue, these complexes release inflammation causing chemicals, which may play a role in numerous diseases and conditions.

For further information on testing see http://rmalab.com/node/48

  1. Vitamin D Levels Via Blood Test

In Canada, a lack of direct sunlight in winter means we do not make vitamin D from October to April.

Only about 1/3 of Canadians have vitamin D levels* above 75 nmol/L, the minimum considered optimal for health.

A 2010 study estimated that 37,000 deaths could be prevented every year if the Canadian average vitamin D level* was 105 nmol/L.

Reasons for Vitamin D Deficiency:

Season or Latitude

The low angle of the sun in Canada means we cannot make vitamin D during the winter months.

Sunscreen Use

SPF 15 sunscreen reduces D synthesis by 99%.

Skin Colour

Dark skin has more of the pigment melanin, which can reduce vitamin D synthesis by up to 99%.

Age

Vitamin D synthesis decreases by about 75% in a 70 year old.

Medications

Specific medications, like anti-rejection, anti-seizure and AIDS medicines can speed up the breakdown of vitamin D, resulting in low levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D.

Cholesterol-lowering medications are commonly prescribed for high cholesterol and heart disease.   Monitoring cholesterol is important, because having too-low cholesterol impairs the body’s ability to make vitamin D.

For more information on Vitamin D levels see  http://rmalab.com/medical-laboratory-tests/environmental-nutritional/d-spot

  1. Digestive Function

Support general digestive function with enzymes, probiotics, demulcents and cholagogues to heal the gut lining and reduce bacterial imbalance.

Balance liver detox pathways via proper supplementation to support Phase 1,2, and 3.

Topical treatments including emollients, activated Vitamin D, Neem, or other botanicals

Coleus forskolli supplementation for psoriasis can be helpful. Carbolin 19 from Biotest is the best form.

Do aggressive biotherapeutic drainage for a minimum of one year.

TBM (Total Body Modification) basic reflexes have to be all up and running. Information  on TBM can be found at www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIeF94riKtc

Pain and Injury Treatments

back pain Pain is a signal from the body that something is not right with our physiology. Treatments to mask or “numb” the pain are often detrimental to health and do little to speed recovery for most pain sufferers. The naturopathic approach has many integrative therapies that speed healing and serves to correct the underlying cause of pain.

Pain Neutralization Technique

A gentle use of local reflex points to turn off painful regions. This system is highly useful to improve muscle tension and significantly reduce pain without the use of any aggressive or invasive procedures. Patients often report a substantial decrease in overall body pain in a handful of treatments.

Prolotherapy

An injection technique using dextrose and local anaesthetic to repair damaged, strained or stretched ligaments and tendons. Injection of damaged tissues helps to restore stability of unstable joints, often an underlying issue behind osteoarthritis, and chronic joint pain.

Neural Therapy

It is well documented that pain is often mediated through the brain and often unrelated to the region where pain is felt. Painful regions may not be damaged at all but dysfunctional reflexes to the region cause local pain, tenderness and spasm. Injections of local anaesthetic into scars or trigger points help to restore normal nervous communication to tissues.

Acupuncture

The use of acupuncture is an ancient practice to restore overall meridian balance to restore optimal flow of “qi” through the acupuncture meridians. Modern medicine is now beginning to document the benefits of acupuncture with regard to accelerating the recovery process while also providing a safe alternative to pain killers.

Chronic Neck and Back Pain

Medicine bottleStay Hydrated!  Water is easily the most vital nutrient your body needs. Poor hydration will lead to poor circulation, decreased wound repair and increased tendency to spasm. I recommend about a litre of pure water per 50 pounds of bodyweight per day.

Balance Your Blood Sugar! The vast majority of people have suboptimal blood sugar balance. Whenever blood sugar fluctuates it tends to increase blood levels of stress hormones. Elevated stress hormones slow down wound healing and increase perception of pain. Try to eat high quality protein and vegetables every 3 hours.

Avoid Unhealthy Foods! Unhealthy dietary choices increase the toxicity burden of the body while also encouraging inflammation and allergic activity. Fried food, sugar and/or a diet high in processed grains are a good idea to avoid.

Try Supplements! There exist an almost infinite variety of nutrients, herbs and nutra-ceuticals on the market that can benefit health and pain. The first step is to correct the most likely deficiencies that can compromise general health. A high quality multivitamin/multi-mineral and a good source of essential fatty acids is a great start.

Take Epsom Salt Baths! Epsom salt baths relax muscle spasm and can also improve detoxification. Try this whenever you feel sore or tense.

Fix Your Ligaments! Ligaments are what hold your joints together. It is near impossible to be pain free when over-stretched ligaments from old injuries are present. I’ve found Prolotherapy to be an invaluable asset to treating most chronic pain.

Delete the Pain Reflexes!  Most people are unaware the role the nervous system plays with regard to pain, spasm and poor range of motion. I use a technique called “Pain Neutralization” to retrain reflexes to delete pain and improve range of motion of painful joints often instantly!

Align the Spine!  Segments in the neck and back need to move freely in the right way to allow for optimal motion, health and comfort. Spinal adjustments improve biomechanics, joint circulation, pain and overall wellbeing.

Meditate Your Stress Away!Chronic stress is a known contributor to disease and pain. Regular meditation has been shown to reduce pain, improve IQ and improve most known parameters of good health. A variety of great tools that can be used at tybro.com and www.sanskritmantra.com to learn meditation.

Exercise!  Nothing is more destructive to the body than poor circulation. Consistent exercise strengthens muscles, bones and connective tissue and improves systemic blood flow. Pain can be due to muscular imbalances and poor flexibility that can be improved with a proper fitness regime. Professional guidance is helpful to gain insight as to what kind of exercise is best for you.
