A common complaint I hear from women in my practice is of gas, bloating, and digestive problems. Seeing how digestive health is a critical part of overall wellness, it is an important issue to address. Gut imbalances can lead to detoxification imbalances which then lead to immune imbalances often becoming an issue for many autoimmune diseases.
First is dysbiosis, this is where the “friendly” bacteria in your gut gets overwhelmed by other forms of bacteria, yeasts and parasites that begin to change the biochemical environment of your gut. Secondly bloating can occur due to any impairment of digestive enzyme production leading to poor assimilation of nutrients. Third issue involves gas/bloating food sensitivity and their reactions. Finally there is Hormone imbalances such as estrogen dominance or thyroid disease can lead to gallbladder stasis or general digestive changes. Estrogen dominance (PMS) can decrease gallbladder secretion and slow motility of the GI tract causing bloating, and constipation or diarrhea. Low thyroid function most often is associated with constipation while high thyroid function is associated with diarrhea.
